Total Possible Hands In Texas Holdem

Once you have the full stats, you can work out percentages for each hand by adding all of the hand counts together and then dividing the amount for each type of hand by the total. Assume for a second there is a game with a deck of 7 cards, and each player gets 2 cards. The cards are a 2, 2, 4, 4, 6, 6 and 8. Experienced Holdem players are often very good at this. An understanding of the types of hands that are most likely to be against you helps prevent both underestimating and overestimating your competition. Here are some stats that are based on the total possible combinations of various Holdem hole cards that are normally playable. In Texas Hold'em, a player is dealt two down card (or pocket cards). The first card can be any one of 52 playing cards in the deck and the second card can be any one of the 51 remaining cards. This gives 52 × 51 ÷ 2 = 1,326 possible starting hand combinations (since the order of the cards is not significant, the 2,652 permutations are divided by the 2 ways of ordering two cards.). There are 1326 distinct possible combinations of two hole cards from a standard 52-card deck in hold 'em, but since suits have no relative value in this poker variant, many of these hands are identical in value before the flop.

The occurrence probabilities of the different types of Holdem flops can be a little confusing because about half of the possible flops contain more than one of the types that are shown. Since each set of properties is counted on its own and compared individually to the 22,100 possible three card combinations, the total of all the various flops far exceeds the number of possible combinations.
